EU, Zingaretti: ‘Reject request to revoke Moretti and Gualmini’s immunity’

Brussels, 11 December (LaPresse) – “The request to waive the immunity of Alessandra Moretti and Elisabetta Gualmini has revealed contradictions and contains statements in support of the waiver of immunity that have proved to be unfounded and ultimately risks affecting the prerogatives of parliamentarians to express their opinions. I hope that Parliament, with full respect for the autonomy of the various institutional actors, will defend the prerogatives of its members by rejecting the request.” This was stated by Nicola Zingaretti, head of the PD delegation to the European Parliament, on the sidelines of the meeting to present the delegation’s new social communication initiatives in Brussels. On 3 December, the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee voted in favour of the request to waive Alessandra Moretti’s immunity, while rejecting that of Elisabetta Gualmini, as part of the “Quatargate” investigation. Now the plenary session, next Tuesday, will have to express its opinion with a final vote.
