Justice reform: Serracchiani, strikes at independence of judiciary

Rome, 11 December (LaPresse) – “If the real objective had been the careers of magistrates, it would have been sufficient to pass an ordinary law providing for two separate public competitions, because careers are already separate in practice, and the objective is another. The goal is the independence and autonomy of the judiciary, the goal is to target the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the goal is to select magistrates by lottery. And I believe that if we end up selecting magistrates by lottery, next time they will ask us to select members of parliament by lottery, to select our leaders in political groups by lottery, to select who represents us in the condominium assembly by lottery. I frankly believe that drawing lots is a no to democracy’. So said Debora Serracchiani, MP and head of justice for the PD, speaking at Atreju in a debate on justice reform.
