Bangkok (Thailand), Dec. 12 (LaPresse) – Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has received royal permission to dissolve Parliament and call general elections early next year. Elections for the House of Representatives will be held between 45 and 60 days after the Royal Decree, during which time Anutin will lead an interim government with limited powers and will not be able to approve a new budget. Anutin wrote on social media: “I would like to return power to the people.” The decision comes at a politically difficult time, as Thailand is engaged in a large-scale war with Cambodia over long-disputed border claims. Around two dozen people have been killed in this week’s fighting, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced on both sides.
