Ukraine, Weber: ‘A solution is needed on Russian assets; failure is not an option’

Heidelberg (Germany), 12 December (LaPresse) – “Next week’s European Council will be historic. We must assure the Ukrainian people that we are on their side. We are talking about teachers, we are talking about pensioners, we are talking about hospitals. These are the functions of the state in Ukraine. And that is why confirming that they can count on us, that we are on their side, is truly historic, considering that there is no more funding from the Americans.” This was stated by EPP leader Manfred Weber, speaking to the Italian press on the sidelines of the EPP meeting in Heidelberg, Germany, which was also attended by Vice-President and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. ‘This is, in a sense, the starting point, and that is why failing next week is not an option. So we need a solution, and I hope that the latest talks will now lead to a concrete result,’ Weber added.
