Copenhagen (Denmark), 12 December (LaPresse/AP) – The United States is using its economic power to ‘assert its will’ and threaten the use of military force against both friends and enemies, according to a new report by a Danish intelligence agency. The Danish Defence Intelligence Service, in its latest annual assessment, said Washington’s increased assertiveness under the Trump administration comes even as China and Russia seek to reduce Western influence, particularly that of the United States. ‘For many countries outside the West, it has become a viable option to enter into strategic agreements with China rather than the United States,’ the report, written in Danish, said. ‘China and Russia, along with other like-minded states, are seeking to reduce the global influence of the West, and in particular the United States.’ ‘At the same time, uncertainty has grown about how the United States will prioritise its resources in the future,’ it added. ‘This gives regional powers greater room for manoeuvre, allowing them to choose between the United States and China or to strike a balance between the two.’ ‘The United States is leveraging its economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to assert its will, and the possibility of resorting to military force, even against allies, is no longer ruled out,’ the report continues.
