Milan, 17 December (LaPresse) – Employees at the Louvre in Paris have voted in favour of extending their strike to protest against working conditions and insufficient resources. They had already voted in favour of the strike on Monday, and the museum remained closed. Tuesday is the museum’s usual weekly closing day. According to union sources speaking to Bfmtv, following this morning’s vote in favour of extending the strike, the Louvre museum will remain closed today. The strike comes after the embarrassing theft of jewellery from the museum in broad daylight in October. The unions say that frustration has grown due to staff shortages, the condition of the building and the planned increase in ticket prices for non-European visitors.
