Rome, 17 December (LaPresse) – The judges of the third criminal section of the Court of Cassation have rejected the appeal by the Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office, effectively confirming the acquittal of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini in the Open Arms case. The leader of the League, acquitted by the Second Criminal Division of the Court of Palermo, had been accused of kidnapping and refusal to perform official duties. ‘Defending borders is not a crime,’ Salvini wrote on Facebook after the acquittal was confirmed by the Court of Cassation.
