Christmas: Coldiretti-Ixè, £9.6 billion spent on gifts, 1 in 3 choose food and wine hampers

Milan, 20 Dec. (LaPresse) – ‘Italians will spend €9.6 billion on Christmas gifts in 2025, with food and wine products at the top of the list of most popular gifts, partly due to the recognition of Italian cuisine as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, ahead of clothing and accessories, followed by household items, books, toys and technology’. This is according to a Coldiretti/Ixè survey on festive habits, with the shopping rush entering its final phase. “As many as five million Italians concentrate their spending in the week leading up to Christmas. The average budget is up on last year, although there are significant differences: 11% do not exceed £50, 44% remain between £50 and £150, 24% reach £300 and the rest go higher. Food and wine hampers remain at the top of the gift list, with more than one in three families (34%) spending an average of £48 on a wide range of specialities to give as gifts or put under the tree, partly on the wave of recognition for Italian cuisine, with its inclusion in the UNESCO heritage list,” notes Coldiretti.
