Egypt, Foreign Ministry: ‘Italian woman dies in collision between two cruise boats on the Nile’

Rome, 21 December (LaPresse) An Italian citizen died in a collision between two cruise boats this evening on the Nile in the Luxor area. The news was announced by the Italian Foreign Ministry. Officials from the Italian consulate are in contact with the Italian citizen’s spouse and with the tour operators who were accompanying the other Italian citizens on board the boat involved in the accident. According to initial reports from informed sources, the collision between the two boats occurred about 30 kilometres from Luxor at around 7 p.m. local time. The woman was on board the ship “Royal Beau Rivage” and was accompanied by her husband. In total, there were about 70-80 Italians on board. The collision destroyed at least four cabins on the boat. The condition of the other Italians on board is currently being assessed. At the moment, no other critical issues have been reported. The Italian honorary consul in Luxor has been notified.
