Court of Auditors bill, Conte: ‘It’s a new step towards a “Republic of impunity”’

Milan, 27 December (LaPresse) – “Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, another step was taken towards a republic of impunity and injustice, with the introduction of yet another shield for the illegal activities of politicians and those who administer public affairs. This time, the Meloni government is targeting the Court of Auditors, which dared to do its job and reported the damage they were doing on the Strait Bridge.” Thus, in a Facebook post regarding the approval of the draft law to reform the Court of Auditors, Five Star Movement leader Giuseppe Conte. “With the law that politicians and officials who cause serious damage to the treasury by wasting citizens” money have just passed in the Senate, they will pay only 30% of the damages or even less, since they will only be required to pay a maximum of two years’ salary. As for the rest, citizens and businesses will pay through taxes and cuts to services. They are weakening the Court of Auditors and cutting down on time so as not to allow real control over how citizens’ money is used: with preliminary opinions and tacit consent after 30 days, the stage is set for a great fair of illegality, we will have unpunished fraud and damage to the treasury, and highways for the rampages of the corrupt,” adds Conte, for whom ‘after the abolition of abuse of office, the warning to corrupt individuals before arrest, the weakening of wiretapping and the reform of the ordinary judiciary, now the caste of politicians who feel untouchable scores another point in its favour. It is up to us to participate, vote and change things in order to cancel the disastrous measures of this government.”
