Influenza, ISS: ‘Respiratory infections on the rise, close to peak’

Naples, 29 December (LaPresse) – The total incidence of acute respiratory infections has been on the rise over the last week. This was reported in the RespiVirNet surveillance report, published today by the ISS (Italian National Health Institute) and available this year in interactive form. In the week from 15 to 21 December, the incidence was 17.1 cases per 1,000 patients (compared to 14.7 in the previous bulletin), an increase compared to the previous week, as expected for the period. Approximately 950,000 new cases have been estimated, with a total of approximately 5.8 million cases since the start of surveillance. As usual, the highest incidence is observed in the 0-4 age group, with approximately 50 cases per 1,000 patients.
