Venezuela, Tajani: ‘I spoke on the phone with Biagio Pilieri, the Italian who has been released’

Rome, 9 January (LaPresse) – Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke on the phone with Biagio Pilieri, the Italian detained in Venezuela who was released last night. ‘He is in good condition and is already being assisted by our diplomatic office in Caracas. He is one of the four detainees I specifically mentioned to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio,’ Tajani wrote on X, referring to ‘yet another diplomatic victory for Italy’. ‘Constant and silent work always in defence of our fellow citizens. Today is a good day for Biagio’s family and friends. A positive sign from President Delcy Rodríguez,’ he added, emphasising that the Foreign Ministry continues ‘to work for the release of all other Italian prisoners’.
