Tehran, Jan 12 (LaPresse) – In Iran, the violence peaked over the weekend but “the situation is now under total control”. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a meeting with foreign diplomats in Tehran. His statements were reported by the Qatar-funded satellite television network Al-Jazeera, which, despite the internet blackout in Iran, was able to continue broadcasting. Araghchi claims that Iran has footage showing the distribution of weapons to protesters and adds that the authorities will soon make public the confessions of some detainees. The demonstrations were “fueled and incited” by foreign elements and the security forces “will hunt down” those responsible, Araghchi emphasized.
