Iran, Merz: ‘The Tehran regime is in its final days’

Frankfurt (Germany), 13 January (LaPresse) – In light of the mass protests in Iran, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believes the end of the country’s current leadership is imminent. “A regime that can only remain in power by resorting to violence is, in fact, already finished. I believe we are witnessing the last days, if not the last weeks, of this regime,‘ Merz said during an official visit to India. Yesterday, the Chancellor had already strongly condemned the repression exercised by Iranian security forces against peaceful demonstrators, calling it “brutal” and ’disproportionate”. ‘I appeal to the Iranian leadership: protect your people instead of intimidating them,’ he said. Merz finally expressed his appreciation for the courage of the demonstrators, stressing that they are peacefully demanding fundamental freedoms and rights, which are fully legitimate.
