Brussels, 4 April (LaPresse) – The United Kingdom ‘is a nation that believes in open trade and I regret the return to protectionism in the United States, something we have not seen for almost a century. As you know, we are consulting with business and industry. Right now, we are engaged in discussions with the United States to reach an economic agreement'. So says the British Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, arriving at the second day of the NATO Foreign Ministerial meeting in Brussels. ‘We have been absolutely clear that all options are on the table to secure the national interests of the British people, who at this time will be very concerned about the impact this will have on their profits and their economic well-being. We will put their national interests first, and it is in our national interest to negotiate an economic deal with the United States at this time,’ he added.
