Madrid (Spain), Jan. 16 (LaPresse) – The presentation of the Nobel Prize medal to Donald Trump was “an act of consistency,” “Maria Corina Machado said from the outset that the prize belonged to all Venezuelans,” and this gift demonstrated “the gratitude of all Venezuelans to Trump.” This was stated in an interview with LaPresse by Italian-Venezuelan Fabio Valentini, who is part of the leadership of Machado’s party, Vente Venezuela, and who is in Washington with the delegation that welcomed the opposition leader. Valentini denied that it was a humiliation for the leader: “It was a gift, like the one that any head of state or person who comes to the White House gives to the president.” “If we compare it to Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the relationship they now have, we can easily see when something is welcome or unwelcome to this administration,” the politician noted. Valentini then recalled “the powerful and important history” behind the awarding of the prize to Trump, which Machado illustrated by recalling the medal of George Washington that the Marquis de Lafayette presented to Simon Bolivar, hero of South American independence.
