Australian Open: Paolini out in the third round, Jovic advances

Milan, 23 January (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini’s run at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, came to an end in the third round. The Italian tennis player, ranked No. 8 and seeded No. 7, lost to the young American Iva Jovic, ranked No. 27 in the WTA and seeded No. 29, who won in three sets with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (3) after 1 hour and 48 minutes of play. During the match, Paolini suffered from stomach problems that weakened her, but the American player of Serbian origin, who was defeated last week by fellow Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the final of the WTA tournament in Hobart, still put in an excellent performance. In the next round, Jovic will face Kazakhstan’s Yulia Puntintseva, ranked 94th in the WTA, who defeated Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez, ranked 112th, who came through the qualifiers, 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3 after more than two and a half hours of play.
