Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 23 January (LaPresse/AP) – Iran’s Attorney General Mohammad Movahedi has denied US President Donald Trump’s claim that his intervention stopped the execution of 800 people arrested during anti-government protests, calling these statements ‘completely false’. This was reported by the Iranian news agency Mizan, which is linked to the Iranian judiciary. This reopens the possibility that there will be executions following the protests. ‘This claim is completely false; there is no such number, nor has the judiciary made any decision in this regard,’ Movahedi said, according to Mizan. Officials have already stated that some detainees face the death penalty. Trump has said that mass executions and killings of peaceful protesters are both red lines that must not be crossed, threatening a US military attack on Iran.
