Turin, 24 Jan. (LaPresse) – Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini’s run in the doubles draw at the Australian Open at Melbourne Park ended in the second round. In their second match, the Italian pair lost 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(10-8) after two hours and 35 minutes of battle to Australians Kimberly Birrell and Talia Gibson, who entered the draw thanks to a wild card. Errani and Paolini – Olympic champions in Paris in 2024, who celebrated their first Slam title as a pair at Roland Garros in 2025 – missed three match points in the twelfth game of the decisive set. The hosts will now face China’s Hanyu Guo and France’s Kristina Mladenovic, seeded 16th, in the third round (round of 16), who won 61 46 62 in an hour and three quarters against Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Denmark’s Clara Tauson.
