Turin, 26 Jan. (LaPresse) – Republican Chris Madel has announced that he has ended his campaign for governor of Minnesota, stating that he cannot support his party’s national members and their ‘revenge on the citizens of our state’ following recent ICE operations. In a video on X, Madel said he supported the initial stated purpose of the operation, which was to detain the ‘worst of the worst’ migrants who are in the country illegally, but added that the operation had ‘extended far beyond its stated goal of addressing real threats to public safety.’ The Republican said it was ‘wrong’ for black US citizens to live in fear and carry passports to prove their citizenship status. Madel also criticised two recent federal measures, which authorise agents to enter homes without a warrant and prevent state investigators from accessing evidence from recent shootings, calling them unconstitutional.
