Milan-Cortina Olympics, Sala: ‘Ice not compatible with our safety procedures’

Milan, 26 January (LaPresse) – Regarding the possible presence of ICE agents in Milan for the Olympic Games, “I am quite surprised by Minister Piantedosi’s attitude. First he says “what’s the problem”, then he says “we are making a fuss over nothing”. No, it’s not nothing. As the mayor of Milan and as an Italian, I really don’t want this private police force to come to Milan. It’s a police force that acts completely illegally, that kills, but in any case acts illegally. It means entering citizens’ homes without a warrant; they sign the warrant themselves. Therefore, they are totally incompatible with our methods of managing security. It is truly astonishing to hear people say that there is no problem. There is a problem, and it is a big one. So I hope, and it seems to me that in the end we are coming to a denial, but I certainly do not think that they are compatible with our ways of managing a sensitive issue such as security, because it is certainly sensitive. I strongly hope that they will not cross the Italian border’. These were the words of the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, on the sidelines of a meeting with the leader of Azione, Carlo Calenda, on the subject of security in the city.
