Niscemi, Meloni: “Complex situation, working on solutions for 1,500 displaced persons”

Milan, Jan. 28 (LaPresse) – “I took the opportunity to visit Niscemi, which I was flying over, and then I decided to land and talk to the mayor, because the situation there is particularly complex, objectively speaking. Seen in person, it is even more striking than the images, which are already quite significant. We took stock of the situation with the mayor and the Civil Protection Agency. This morning, we focused primarily on the need to provide answers to the approximately 1,500 people currently displaced, and then we will understand how many will be displaced permanently, because the landslide is still moving.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a meeting on the bad weather emergency during her visit to Sicily. ‘But certainly,’ she added, ‘with Minister Musumeci, we can intervene with Casa Italia for the houses that are right on the edge of the precipice. We have the resources to intervene immediately. But the emergencies are clearly the displaced people and the particularly compromised road network, because two out of three provincial roads are essentially unusable today, so we are working on an alternative road plan, including using old agricultural routes. There are three schools in the red zone, including elementary schools and kindergartens: we would like to try to provide immediate answers here too, in order to restore normality to the citizens as soon as possible, including the possibility for children to go to school. There is the problem of the energy network, particularly gas, which we are also working on immediately.”
