Niscemi, Ispra: “94.5% of Italian municipalities are at risk of landslides”

Rome, Jan. 28 (LaPresse) – “94.5% of Italian municipalities are at risk of landslides, floods, avalanches, and coastal erosion.” This was stated by the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), reporting data from the latest report on hydrogeological instability. According to ISPRA’s analysis, “19.2% of the national territory is classified as being at high risk of landslides and floods, with 1.28 million inhabitants living in areas at high and very high risk of landslides.” There are also “6.8 million people exposed to flood risk in the medium hydraulic hazard scenario with return periods of between 100 and 200 years,” i.e., the average frequency with which events of a certain intensity occur.
