Tariffs, Cuba: ‘Brutal act of aggression by the US’

Milan, 30 January (LaPresse) – “We condemn in the strongest terms the latest escalation by the US against Cuba. They are now proposing to impose a total blockade on oil supplies to our country. We denounce to the world this brutal act of aggression against Cuba and its people, who for over 65 years have been subjected to the longest and cruelest economic blockade ever imposed on an entire nation and who now risk being subjected to extreme living conditions.” This was stated by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla after the executive order signed by Donald Trump. The Cuban minister then spoke of “a long list of lies that attempt to portray Cuba as a threat that it is not. Every day, new evidence emerges that the only threat to peace, security and stability in the region, and the only malign influence, is that exerted by the United States government against the nations and peoples of our America, which it seeks to subjugate, plunder, paralyse and deprive of their independence.” ‘The United States also resorts to blackmail and coercion to try to force other countries to adhere to its universally condemned blockade policy against Cuba, threatening them with arbitrary and abusive customs duties in case of refusal, in violation of all principles of free trade,’ Rodríguez Parrilla concludes.
