Cuba, Trump: ‘We are starting to talk, they will probably want an agreement’

Milan, 1 February (LaPresse/AP) – ‘We are starting to talk to Cuba’ and ‘they will probably come to us and want to reach an agreement’. This was stated by US President Donald Trump, speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One while flying to Florida. The statement comes as his administration is putting more pressure on the communist island, with measures aimed at cutting off oil supplies from Venezuela and Mexico, measures that Trump says will force Cuba to the negotiating table. Trump’s real goals in Cuba remain unclear, but the US president has turned more attention to the island after Washington captured then-Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in an operation in Caracas on 3 January.
