Rome, 1 February (LaPresse) – ‘On behalf of the government and myself, I would like to thank His Holiness Pope Leo XIV for his precious words, rich in meaning, which he dedicated to the athletes and the entire organisational machine of the Milan Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Games, which are about to begin, during the Angelus in St. Peter’s Square.’ These were the words of the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi. ‘The government is deeply grateful to the Pope and fully agrees with his call for an Olympic Truce,’ he added, “so that it is not a mere formality, but a pact for peace that must be substantiated thanks to the contribution that sport can offer as a tool for dialogue, encounter and diplomacy, in the hope that human conscience, respect for life and an end to wars.”
