Milan, Feb. 5 (LaPresse) – The former lawyer of Andrea Sempio, Massimo Lovati, will stand trial for defamation against colleagues Enrico and Fabio Giarda, sons of the historic defense attorney of Alberto Stasi, Professor Angelo Giarda. Milan public prosecutor Fabio De Pasquale served the 73-year-old from Vigevano with a direct summons to trial on charges of having offended “the reputation and honor” of the Giardas on March 13, 2025, by giving statements to about a dozen television outlets in which he claimed that “the investigation conducted in 2017” into Sempio “was the result of a scheme orchestrated by the defense of the Giarda Law Firm.” The statement was made outside the “Caserma Montebello” on Via Monti, headquarters of the Lombardy Carabinieri Legion Command, where Sempio had gone for a DNA sample following the reopening of the investigation against him for the Garlasco murder. Lovati, assisted by lawyer Fabrizio Gallo, also allegedly added, in front of cameras from TG1, TG2, TG3, SkyTG24, La7, Mediaset, Milano Pavia TV, Fanpage, Antenna 3 and programs such as Quarto Grado, Le Iene, Mattino Cinque, that the “2017 inquiry” into Sempio “was the result of manipulation organized by investigators from the law office of Stasi’s defense attorneys,” who allegedly “clandestinely collected my client’s DNA” in 2016. The pre-trial hearing, for the formal referral to trial and the constitution of the parties, has been scheduled for May 26 before the single judge of the third criminal section of the Milan Court.
