Germany-USA: media reports Merz to meet Trump in Washington on 3 March

Frankfurt (Germany), 5 February (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will meet US President Donald Trump again in Washington on 3 March. This was reported by the Axel Springer Global Reporters Network, according to which the meeting will take place at the White House. This will be the third meeting between the two since Merz took office in May 2025. Merz made his first official visit to the United States on 6 June 2025. A second trip to Washington followed in mid-August last year, in an extraordinary form, together with other European heads of state and government, after the summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held in Alaska. The new meeting comes at a time of transatlantic tensions, linked in particular to US claims on Greenland. In this context, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected in Germany next week to attend the Munich Security Conference.
