Iran, US Embassy: ‘Americans should leave the country or keep a low profile’

Rome, 6 February (LaPresse) – In a statement, the US Embassy in Iran has urged its citizens to ‘leave the country now’ or, in any case, to make plans to do so ‘that do not depend on the help of the US government’. For those who are unable to do so, the advice is to ‘avoid demonstrations, keep a low profile and be aware of your surroundings’. The reason for this is ‘enhanced security measures’ with ‘road closures, public transport disruptions and Internet blockages’. Therefore, it is necessary to ‘plan alternative means of communication and, if possible, consider leaving Iran by land to reach Armenia or Turkey.’ As for flights, ‘cancellations and disruptions are possible at short notice.’ Another piece of advice is to ‘keep your phone charged and continue to communicate with family and friends’ as well as keeping ‘food, water, medicines and other essential items’ to hand.
