Bormio (Sondrio), 7 February (LaPresse) – Double podium for Italy in the downhill event at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the first competition of the Games to award an Olympic title. Giovanni Franzoni won the silver medal ahead of Dominik Paris, who took bronze. The gold medal was won by Switzerland’s Franjo von Allmen with a time of 1’51″61. Franzoni finished 20 hundredths of a second behind the Swiss, Paris 50 hundredths behind. The number one favourite for the race, Switzerland’s Mario Odermatt, finished off the podium. Mattia Casse came tenth and Florian Schieder fifteenth. Once again, Italy missed out on the gold medal after Zeno Colò’s victory in Oslo in 1952. Von Allmen built his victory on the Crescentina, slightly anticipating the line and then reaching maximum speed on the San Pietro jump.
