Strasbourg (France), 9 February. (LaPresse) – “The Commission has already presented ten omnibus packages aimed at simplifying the implementation of existing legislation, supplemented by a series of additional simplification initiatives. These measures are expected to generate around €15 billion per year in administrative savings. This programme is far from complete. Several further simplification measures will follow, including additional omnibus packages. At the same time, the Commission is redoubling its efforts to simplify the day-to-day operations of businesses by simplifying authorisation procedures, which will significantly speed up the implementation of projects across the Union.” This was written by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a letter to EU leaders on competitiveness ahead of Thursday’s informal leaders’ retreat. ‘These reforms include a wide range of measures, including the digitisation of procedures, the establishment of one-stop shops, the designation of projects of significant public interest and the creation of dedicated reference areas. They have already been systematically integrated into proposals for strategic sectors such as clean technologies, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and energy networks, as well as in the recent environmental omnibus,’ she explains.
