Iran, Trump relaunches on ‘Truth’ article on sending second aircraft carrier

Washington (USA), Feb. 12 (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump reposted on ‘Truth’ the Wall Street Journal article stating that the United States would be preparing to send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East after the USS Abraham Lincoln. The article cites three US officials briefed on the matter who explain that it would still take about two weeks from any possible green light by Trump. Meanwhile, in an interview with the Financial Times, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed that both the United States and Iran appear willing to compromise to secure a nuclear deal, but expanding the talks to include Tehran’s ballistic missile program would risk provoking “nothing but another war.” Fidan, who has played a key role in mediation efforts to avoid a conflict, told the FT that Washington has signaled a willingness to be flexible on a key demand, namely that Iran end all uranium enrichment activities, a condition that has long represented a fundamental obstacle to reaching an agreement, as Iran insists on its right to enrichment as a signatory of the non-proliferation treaty. The Turkish Foreign Minister also said he believes that Tehran “sincerely wants to reach a real agreement” and would accept restrictions on enrichment levels and a strict inspection regime, as it did in the 2015 agreement with the United States and other world powers.
