Naples: heart transplant, Ministry of Health sends inspectors to Bolzano

Rome, 13 February (LaPresse) – The Ministry of Health has ordered inspectors to be sent to the hospital in Bolzano, where the heart intended for the transplant of little Tommaso, hospitalised at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, was removed. This was announced by sources at the ministry. The inspectors will have to ascertain the circumstances that led to the damage to the organ during transport. According to reports, the heart was transported using dry ice instead of normal ice, which may have compromised the integrity of the organ prior to transplantation. The inspection aims to shed light on the entire incident, from the removal of the organ to its arrival in Naples, and to clarify any responsibilities in the management of the removal and transport of the organ.
