Ukraine: former energy minister arrested while attempting to leave the country

Milan, 15 February (LaPresse) – Former Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko was arrested by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (Nabu) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (Sapo) while attempting to cross the border on the night between 14 and 15 February. This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda, citing an informed source, according to which Halushchenko was taken off a train. The source explained that border guards had received a request from Nabu and Sapo regarding Halushchenko, to obtain information in case he attempted to cross the border. This procedure is applied when a person is involved in criminal proceedings.
