Transplanted child: Heart Team experts say no to further surgery

Rome, 18 February (LaPresse) – The Heart Team, which met this morning at Monaldi Hospital in Naples – where the child who received a heart on 23 December that later proved to be damaged is hospitalised – has rejected the idea of a new transplant. The Colli Hospital Authority specified that the “collegial discussion” allowed for “the most complete and comprehensive assessment possible”. In light of the assessments made at the patient’s bedside and based on the latest instrumental tests, “it was determined that the child’s condition is not compatible with a new transplant”. The Strategic Management “has informed the National Transplant Centre and expresses its sincere sympathy to the family, who were promptly informed, at this very difficult time”.
