Boxing: Mayweather to return to the ring at 49

Los Angeles (California, USA), 21 February (LaPresse/AP) – Boxer Floyd Mayweather has announced that he will end his nine-year retirement and return to boxing in official matches this summer. Mayweather, who turns 49 on Tuesday, has not fought a real boxing match since 2017, when he defeated Conor McGregor. After that million-pound bout against the mixed martial arts champion, Mayweather (who has a record of 50-0, 27 KOs) declared himself “retired” for the third time in his career. During his long career, the former world champion has also fought a series of lucrative exhibition bouts against the likes of online influencer Logan Paul, YouTuber Mikuri Asakura and John Gotti III, the grandson of the infamous mob boss. Mayweather has already announced another exhibition scheduled for this spring against 59-year-old Mike Tyson, although no location or television partner has been confirmed yet. But Mayweather has announced that he will also return to real competition in the ring this year thanks to a promotional agreement with CSI Sports/Fight Sports.
