Milan, Mar. 5 (LaPresse) – “We are eliminating the last inaccessible areas of the Earth. Not only for city dwellers, but especially for those living far from everything. The sky will become the network that connects everyone.” This is how Elon Musk, head of Starlink, announced how “ensuring a stable and high-quality internet connection in all areas of the world, even the most remote, has always been one of the goals of his entrepreneurial vision.” Thanks to the next-generation V2 satellites – emphasizes a note from Musk’s company – it will be possible to transmit at real 5G speeds directly to mobile phones with a capacity up to 100 times higher than the current one. According to recent estimates based on official data from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other global analyses, about one-third of the world’s population does not have access to the Internet. It will thus be possible to make work video calls, stream content, and operate online in any situation: from an office or a moving vehicle at high speed, from the heart of a metropolis as well as from a place currently without any network coverage. Users will not need to do anything, nor buy new phones or additional equipment. This solution is already compatible with all existing smartphones. This technology could represent a turning point. It is also a fundamental contribution for emergency situations: today, any extreme weather event can isolate entire areas, making even rescue operations complicated in extraordinary situations; the same can happen at sea. Thanks to the use of satellites, the signal will be constant, and people will be able to call and interact with the rest of the world at any time and in any situation. “An opportunity also for Italy, which still today has several areas with internet access problems,” he adds.
