Milan, Mar. 7 (LaPresse) – “We continue to engage in dialogue with all the countries of the region and to assist our fellow citizens still present in the area, but we are also working to mitigate as much as possible the consequences of the conflict for citizens and for our nation, with task forces activated to monitor trends in the prices of energy, gasoline and food, and to combat speculation. In particular, regarding gasoline, we are also considering activating the mechanism of the so-called floating excise duties, which this government made more effective with the 2023 fuel measure, should prices increase in a stable way,” said Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video on social media.
“The mechanism, whose activation is also being requested by some opposition parties, makes it possible to use the additional VAT revenue generated by rising prices to reduce excise duties. It is the sterilization tool that we had included in the center-right government program, and its activation has already been under consideration for a few days by the Ministry of Economy,” she added.
