We urge all Americans to remain vigilant, follow the instructions of local authorities, and consult the latest guidelines from the US Embassy. Your well-being remains our primary concern.’ ‘The US government is prepared to assist American citizens in leaving the Middle East if you choose to take advantage of the available options,’ the statement continues. ‘If you choose not to take advantage of the available departure options, Americans should be prepared to take refuge in a safe place within their residence or another secure building. Keep a supply of food, water, medicine and other essential items,’ it concludes.
