Sicily, regional manager arrested for corruption: took money from crime bosses

Palermo, 10 March (LaPresse) – The Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office has arrested Favara boss Carmelo Vetro, released from prison in 2019, and Giancarlo Teresi, manager of the port infrastructure service of the Sicilian Regional Infrastructure Department, on charges of corruption. The investigation conducted by the Palermo Sisco, the Trapani mobile squad and the DIA is coordinated by Palermo prosecutor Maurizio de Lucia, deputy prosecutor Vito Di Giorgio and assistant prosecutors Gianluca De Leo, Bruno Bucoli and Maria Pia Ticino. The boss allegedly paid the executive several bribes to win contracts at the port of Marinella di Selinunte and the port of Donnalucata. In addition to the two arrested, Vetro’s brother-in-law, Antonio Lombardo, regional official Francesco Mangiapane and entrepreneur Giovanni Aveni are also under investigation for corruption.
