Venice, Mar 11 (LaPresse) – “At this point it is clear that the issue has become purely political and that, consequently, there is no need to have a musician among the council members. So I’m leaving.” With these words, in a long post on his Facebook account, Alessandro Tortato, member of the board of the Fondazione Teatro La Fenice appointed last January by the Ministry of Culture, announced his resignation after the consultative vote that confirmed the appointment of Beatrice Venezi as music director.
“I return to my passions, never abandoned, with the great regret of having experienced something that I expected to be exciting but that instead turned out to be a disaster,” he added. Regarding Venezi’s appointment as music director, Tortato stressed, “one can disagree, protest, talk about violated practice, but the appointment is legitimate. It is not equally legitimate, or at least correct, for Colabianchi to say that the appointment was approved unanimously by the board of directors, something that never happened. The board, according to the statute, has no authority to express opinions on artistic appointments; it can only do so on the approval of budgets, programming, the appointment of the superintendent, and union disputes.”
