Palermo: Bruno Contrada, former police officer and SISDE executive, has died

Palermo, 12 March (LaPresse) – Bruno Contrada, former super police officer and protagonist of the season of massacres, died on Thursday evening in Palermo. A prominent figure in the secret services, he was at the centre of a long and controversial legal case linked to the fight against the Mafia. Former “number three” of SISDE, Contrada was convicted in the 1990s for aiding and abetting a mafia association, a sentence he served for several years, but the conviction was later overturned after rulings by the European Court of Human Rights and deemed to have no criminal effect.
