Bad weather: orange alert tomorrow in Basilicata, Calabria, and Sicily

Milan, Mar 16 (LaPresse) – The Civil Protection Department has issued an orange alert for tomorrow over most of Basilicata, the Ionian sectors of Calabria, and the northeastern sector of Sicily. In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, some areas of Sicily, and the remaining territories of Basilicata and Calabria. The low-pressure system positioned south of Sicily, moving slowly eastward, is causing persistent unstable weather conditions in the southernmost areas of the country, with widespread and persistent precipitation, including thunderstorms, especially on the Ionian side. Based on available forecasts, the Civil Protection Department, in agreement with the regions involved, has issued a new warning of adverse weather conditions. The warning predicts, from the early hours of tomorrow, persistent scattered to widespread precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms, over Calabria, especially the southern and Ionian sectors, extending to Basilicata. From late tomorrow morning, scattered to widespread precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms, is expected over Sicily, especially the eastern sectors. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy downpours, strong gusts of wind, local hail, and electrical activity. From the early hours of tomorrow, strong or gale-force winds from the eastern quadrants are also expected over Sicily, especially the Ionian sectors, and over Calabria, especially the southern sectors.
