Tram derails in Milan; ATM: ‘Mobile phone use is a very serious offence for everyone’

Milan, 20 March (LaPresse) – The use of mobile phones by drivers whilst on duty is a “very serious breach for everyone”. This is the point emphasised by ATM, which points out that it constitutes a breach not only of internal regulations but also of road traffic regulations. According to reports in Corriere and Repubblica, an examination of the mobile phone belonging to the ATM tram driver – who is under investigation for causing a disaster, manslaughter and multiple counts of negligent injury in connection with the tram derailment on 27 February – revealed that he was on the phone up to 12 seconds before the impact.
