Iran: media reports, Tehran denies responsibility for attack on US-UK base

Milan, 22 March (LaPresse) – A senior Iranian official told Al Jazeera that Iran is not responsible for and is not involved in the missile attacks on the Anglo-American military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. The denial came after the Wall Street Journal reported that two medium-range ballistic missiles had been fired at the base, though they did not hit it. Diego Garcia is one of two bases that the United Kingdom has authorised the United States to use as part of the campaign against Iran. The incident attracted attention because Diego Garcia is located 4,000 kilometres from Iran, double the 2,000-kilometre limit which, according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Tehran has deliberately imposed on its missiles.
