Turin, 23 March (LaPresse) – Former French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin has died at the age of 88. The news was confirmed by his family, according to French media reports. Prime Minister from 1997 to 2002 during Jacques Chirac’s presidency, and First Secretary of the Socialist Party from 1981 to 1988 and again from 1995 to 1997, Jospin ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in 1995 and 2002. Last January, he announced that he had undergone “major surgery” without, however, revealing any details.
