Referendum, Meloni: ‘We respect the Italians’ decision; we will press ahead with determination’

Rome, 23 March (LaPresse) – “Sovereignty belongs to the people, and the Italians have spoken clearly today. The government has done what it promised: to push forward with a justice reform that was set out in our election manifesto. We supported it wholeheartedly and then left the choice to the citizens; the citizens have decided, and we, as always, respect their decision.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in a video posted on social media. “There is clearly regret over a missed opportunity to modernise Italy,” the Prime Minister emphasised, “but this does not alter our commitment to continue working with seriousness and determination for the good of the nation and to honour the mandate entrusted to us.” “We will move forward as we always have, with responsibility, determination and, above all, respect for Italy and its people,” Meloni concluded.
