Ukraine, Merz: ‘The war will end when Russia is economically exhausted’

Frankfurt (Germany), 27 March (LaPresse) – ‘I believe this war will not end militarily, but when Russia is economically exhausted and can no longer continue it.’ This was stated by the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, speaking at an event organised by the Frankfurter Allgemeine, in reference to the conflict in Ukraine. ‘It has become a brutal war of attrition in which Russia is not making any significant advances,’ he added, emphasising that ‘the Russian economy is in a very difficult state, with high interest rates and high levels of debt’.
