Jerusalem, Mar 29 (LaPresse) – The Israeli army reported that elite forces carried out, for the first time, a cross-border incursion from Syria into Lebanon. Reservists from the Alpine Unit, operating under the 810th Regional “Mountain” Brigade, “operated in complex mountainous terrain and climbed through snow from the Syrian Mount Hermon to the Mount Dov area in southern Lebanon to patrol the area, gather intelligence, and identify enemy terrorist infrastructure,” the IDF stated. The Israeli army, the Times of Israel notes, has been deployed at nine positions in southern Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024, mainly within a UN-patrolled buffer zone along the border between the two countries. Two positions are located on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.
