UNIFIL: Indonesian peacekeeper killed in explosion in southern Lebanon

Milan, 30 March (LaPresse) – Last night, a peacekeeper was tragically killed by a shell explosion at a UNIFIL post near Adchit Al Qusayr. Another was seriously injured. UNIFIL announced this on X, explaining that ‘no one should ever lose their life in the service of the cause of peace’. The soldier is believed to be of Indonesian nationality, as confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by Al Jazeera. ‘The death and injuries were caused by “indirect artillery fire in the vicinity of the UNIFIL Indonesian contingent’s position, near Adchit Al Qusayr”,’ reads a statement. Meanwhile, UNIFIL has stated that ‘we do not know the origin of the shell. We have launched an investigation to ascertain all the circumstances’.
